Donald J. “Donnie” Riney, 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Crystal City, died Jan. 14, 2019, at Oakwood Estate St. Louis Care Center. Mr. Riney worked for Granite City Steel and was a shop steward for his Machinists Union local in St. Louis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Louis and the Aristocrats Social Club. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and watching football, baseball and track and field. Born Dec. 1, 1937, in St. Mary, he was the son of the late Quandell and Sylvia (Coffman) Riney. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary (Deavens) Riney.

He is survived by two brothers: Winston Riney of Utah and James (LaVerne) Riney of St. Louis; three sisters-in-law: Thelma Thompson of St. Louis, Vivian Oliver of St. Louis and Earline Riney of Festus; five nieces: Michele “Buttercup” Riney, Jenice Tucker, April Riney, Ayla Riney and Zya Riney; and 10 nephews: Kenneth Riney, Derek Riney, Devin Riney, Malik Tucker, Kyrin Tucker, Shandon Riney, Tate Riney, Nick Cuevas, Ruben Cuevas Jr. and Camden Riney.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Richard Riney, Ivan Riney, Melvin Riney and Lindell Riney; and one sister: Bufil-Jean Riney.

Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus, officiated by Elder James Riney. Burial is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Rescue Mission. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
