Don L. Taylor Sr., 73, of Herculaneum died Sept. 1, 2017. Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 12, 1944, in St. Louis, the son of Thelma L. (James) Taylor of Herculaneum and the late Ray Robert Taylor Sr. He was a retired serviceman with Southwestern Bell telephone. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Amvets Post 42 and American Legion Post 253. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, he was a member of the Conservation Federation of Missouri.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son: Don L. Taylor Jr. of St. Louis; three daughters: Laura Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif., Dawn Griffin of Atlanta, Ga., and Brandy George of Bedford, Ind.; two brothers: Robert Taylor of Festus and Ray Taylor Jr. of Pevely; three sisters: Jane Turner of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda (Persey) Rockmore of Herculaneum and Alma Weaver of Murphysboro, Tenn.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sept. 7 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Martinous V. Walls. Burial with full military honors was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Taylor-Howard Scholarship Fund at Herculaneum High School. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
