Domien Richard Meert Jr, 73, of Festus died Nov. 19, 2016, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis County. Mr. Meert was retired from Boeing after more than 40 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. He and his wife were owners and operators of Meert Tree Farm and Nursery in southern Jefferson County. He was a member of the National Christmas Tree Producers Association, Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, Boy Scouts of America and Missouri Christmas Tree Association. Born July 2, 1943, in St Louis, he was the son of Margaret (Hampton) Meert of Oakville and the late Domien Richard Meert Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 53 years: Eileen (Alt) Meert; two sons: Domien Richard (Suzanne) Meert IV of Oakville and John Andrew (Deborah) Meert of Ballwin; four daughters: Anna-Marie (Steve) Mueller of Chesterfield, Constance Jean (Mark) Foster of Festus, Stephanie Ann (John) Robert of Oakville and Jennifer Lynn (Scott) Sommerkamp of Arnold; a brother: Robert Joseph (Rosalie) Meert of Chesterfield; a sister: Barbara Kay Atchison of Pacific; and 14 grandchildren: Victoria Meert, Ryan Sommerkamp, Lucas Mueller, Thomas Robert, Domien Griffin Meert, Margaret Mueller, Samantha Robert, Hannah Meert, Sean Bolin, Caroline Meert, Alexandra Bolin, John “Jack” Meert, Grant Meert and Mia Meert.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Steven Lee Meert.
A funeral service was held Nov. 22 at Sacred Heart Chruch, officiated by Father Edward Nemeth. Burial was in the Porter Cemetery in Festus. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, 63108. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
