Mackey, Dolores

Dolores A. (Long) Mackey, 86, of Desloge, formerly of De Soto, died May 14, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. Mackey was a homemaker and, until her retirement, worked as a cook at the rectory at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City. She also had worked at St. Rose of Lima Church in De Soto. Born Aug. 9, 1928, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Loretto (Brewer) and Adolph J. Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lavere Mackey, whom she married Sept. 5, 1998.

She is survived by four children: John G. (Kris) Long of De Soto, Alice M. (the late Tom) Menne of Chesterfield, Rodney C. (Misty) long of Hillsboro and Brian J. (Vicki) Long of Woodstock, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two children: Lawrence J. “Larry” Long and Mary Elaine Long Sellers; and a brother: Vernon (the late Ruth) Lawrence.

A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 701 Third, in Hillsboro. Mrs. Mackey chose to donate her body to St. Louis University Medical School. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
