Delbert Kenneth Shoults, 73, of Festus died Feb. 25, 2017, at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis. Mr. Shoults was a foreman for Alvey Conveyor, a maintenance technician at Buchheit’s. He served in the U.S. Army and was a former chief of the Hematite Fire Protection District. He enjoyed working in hayfields and in his shop and had a passion for John Deere tractors. Born July 8, 1943, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Ruth (Weber) and Oliver R. Shoults.

He is survived by his wife: Donna “Rae” (Schanz) Shoults; two sons: Terry (Vicki) Shoults of Washington County and Delbert Shoults Jr. of De Soto; a brother: Oliver D. (Genevieve) Shoults of Hematite; two grandchildren: Amber (fiance Brandon) Shoults and Christopher (Megan) Shoults; a great-grandson: Rylan Shoults; and his dog: Sue.

He was preceded in death by a son: Dennis Shoults: a sister: Carol (the late Robert) Hipes; and a great-granddaughter: Addison Shoults.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hematite Methodist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
