David H. Kingsland, 88, De Soto

David H. Kingsland, 88, of De Soto died Jan. 5, 2022, in De Soto. Mr. Kingsland was a U.S. Army veteran. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Missouri in Columbia and was a teacher, principal and superintendent for the Sunrise R-9 School District and a principal for the Hillsboro R-3 School District. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Soto and he was an ordained deacon for 57 years and taught Sunday school classes for many years. He enjoyed farming. Born May 13, 1933, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Harold Hearst and Sarah Mabel (Akins) Kingsland.

He is survived by his wife: Bernice G. (Wigger) Kingsland of De Soto, whom he married in February 1959. He also is survived by five children: Pamela (Kevin) Lashley of Arnold, Sherry (Don) Golterman of Hillsboro, Suzanne (Mike) Shanks of De Soto, Michael (Kim) Kingsland of Blackwell and Alan (Julie) Kingsland of De Soto; a sibling: Lillie Huskey of De Soto; 12 grandchildren: Cody and Camille Lashley, Jacqueline Golterman, Colby (Rachel) Shanks, Erika and Garrett Shanks, Brittany (Andrew M.) Aubuchon, and Kelsey, Austin, Brycen, Allison and Alexis Kingsland; and four great-grandchildren: Maddison Shanks, and Paisley, Elsie and Andrew D. Aubuchon.

He also was preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Apple; a brother: Frank Kingsland; and two brothers-in-law: Shelby Apple and Donald Huskey.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 9) at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 10) at First Baptist Church, 2000 Grace Way, in De Soto, with Rev. Dr. Brad Delaughter officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of De Soto Building Fund, 400 Boyd St., De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
