Danny Keith Hickman, 58, of De Soto died Oct. 7, 2020, in rural Jefferson County as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Hickman worked many years as a driver and operator for the Jefferson County Highway Department and later for the Boilermakers Union before his retirement. He was a member of Festus-Crystal City Elks Lodge 1721 and a former member of Elks Lodge 689 in De Soto. A social character with the “gift of gab” and a quick sense of humor, he was a well-known storyteller and enjoyed spending time with family and friends Born Sept. 21, 1962, in Hayti, he was the son of Shirley J. (Lalk) Hickman of De Soto and the late Edwin K. Hickman Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife: Susan A. (Vineyard) Hickman of De Soto; two sons: Daniel “Luke” (Ashley) Hickman Sr. and Cody (Rebecca Harper) Hickman, both of De Soto; a brother: Edwin K. Hickman Jr. of De Soto; two sisters: Deborah (Roger) Zuchowski of Ingleside, Ill., and Kimberly (David) Ball of De Soto; seven grandchildren: Shelby Hickman, Libby Hickman, Daniel L. Hickman Jr., Henley O’Toole-Hickman, Grace Hickman, Piper Hickman and Brantley; numerous other relatives and many friends.
No formal services are being held at this time. The family plans to hold a special celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be made to scholarship funds established at Elks Lodge 1721 in Festus-Crystal City or Elks Lodge 689 in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
