Daniel Edward Ficken, 87, of Festus died Jan. 31, 2019 at Festus Manor Nursing Cente. Mr. Ficken was a retired carpenter and general contractor who owned the Dan Ficken Construction Co., Dan Ficken Pools, and the House of Lights in Festus. He loved building furniture, fishing, traveling, dancing and his friends. He was a member of the Carpenters District Council of St. Louis and Local 2214 of the Carpenters Union, Faith Baptist Church in Festus and the Festus-Crystal City Elks. Born June 1, 1931, in Belgrade, he was the son of the late Rosalie (Wilson) and Edward Louis Ficken.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years: Freda Rae (Lane) Ficken.

He is survived by two sons: Donald (Donna) Ficken of Kirkwood and Ronald Ficken of Festus; a daughter: Robin (Brent) McMahon of Festus; two grandchildren: Tara (Ryan) Good of Herculaneum and Anthony (Samantha) Ficken of Joplin; and four great-grandsons: Noah and Luke Ficken and Brayden and Easton Good.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lydia (the late Herbert) Abeln and Lyone “Fritzi” Johnston.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at Vinyard Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Matt Culbertson. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Pony Bird Home, 1 Pony Bird Lane, Mapaville MO 63065. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
