Daniel Dismas McCarthy, 72, of Hillsboro died Oct. 28, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. A 1967 graduate of Chaminade College Preparatory School, he received a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Louis University. He was a driver for Little Sisters of the Poor. He enjoyed reading, writing letters to the editor, politics, the St. Louis University Billikens, coaching soccer at Good Shepherd Catholic School and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, where he was a teacher in the Parish School of Religion, the Knights of Columbus of Hillsboro, the Hillsboro R-3 Board of Education, We the People and the Republican Committee. He helped start the soccer program in the Hillsboro R-3 School District. Born Nov. 27, 1948, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Vincent and Bernice (Emkin) McCarthy.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Elenora Eva (Biermann) McCarthy, whom he married Feb. 14, 1975, in St. Louis; three children: Daniel (Kristina) McCarthy of Fenton, John (Pamela) McCarthy of Dayton, Ohio, and Elenora (Andrew) Larkin of Allen, Texas; 10 grandchildren: Kelsey, Kirstyn, Keagan, Kayden, Koby, Macy, Davin, Grace, Padraic and Theodore; two sisters: Mary Ann Seabaugh of Ballwin and Mary Ellen Williamson of Houston, Texas; and numerous family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 504 S. Third St., De Soto, officiated by Father Alex Anderson. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church PSR. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
