Clarence William Martindell, 87, of Herculaneum, formerly of Kirkwood, died March 4, 2018. Mr. Martindell was a retired mechanical engineer at the St. Louis Art Museum. After retirement, he volunteered as a school crossing guard for the Kirkwood Police Department, and sold Avon products with his wife. He was a member of Kirkwood American Legion and the National Nurses Training Club of Missouri. He enjoyed reading, music, playing cards and games, telling stories, sunbathing, drawing, bingo with the members of the Quad City Senior Center in Crystal City and spending time with his friends, Larry and Joe. Born Jan. 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Blanche (Gross) and Clarence Orville Martindell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years: Alfredus “Fritzi” (Mudd) Martindell.
He is survived by five nieces and nephews: Norma Jean (Jerry) Burgess, George Spiess, Barbara (Brent) Bruot, Helen (Terry) Bush and Melba (Robert) Webber; a granddaughter: Laura Cataranzo; a great-niece: Claire (Dennis) Walker of Herculaneum, with whose family he lived for the last seven years; and many family members and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: James; two sisters: Evelyn Spiess and Helen Martindell.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, in Kirkwood. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Bopp Chapel.
