Charles Richard Caby, 90, of Festus died Jan. 24, 2014, at Baisch Nursing Center in De Soto. Mr. Caby was a World War II Army veteran and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 18 months. He was a retired chemical worker for Dow Chemical’s Riverside plant in Pevely. He was also a member of the Church of Our Lady in Festus, VFW Post 3777, American Legion Post 253, and was a longtime volunteer for the Ozark Food Pantry.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Riverside, he was the son of the late Paulie Alice (Krauser) and Henry Elmer Caby.
He is survived by his wife: Shirley Ann (Kassen) Caby; one daughter: Janet Louise (Grant) McKee of De Soto; one son: Mark (Beth) Caby of De Soto; three grandchildren: Gabriel (Carrie) McKee, Jedediah (Lacey) McKee and Garrett McKee; two great-grandchildren: Makiah and Annukah McKee; and one sister-in-law: Dorothy Caby.
He was preceded in death by one grandson: Jacob McKee; one sister, Mildred Elizabeth Huddleston; and four brothers: Henry (the late Lucy) Caby, Harold (the late Ada) Caby, Stanley (the late Mickey) Caby and William Caby.
A memorial gathering will be from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., Festus, followed by a funeral service officiated by Jerry Stoverink. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Jefferson Barracks.
Memorials may be made to St. Louis Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital or the Ozark Food Pantry.
