Charles Laverne “Vern” Hamilton, 78, of Bonne Terre died March 27, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Hamilton graduated from Annapolis High School in 1960 and worked as a delivery driver for Home Service Oil for several years until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, bluegrass music and playing the guitar. He loved to play horseshoes and barbecue with his family. Born April 30, 1942, in Annapolis, he was the son of the late Dallas and Nellie (Jones) Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years: Judith Ann Harmon, whom he married on April 29, 1977, and who died Aug. 27, 2016.
He is survived by eight children: Kenny Hamilton of Dittmer, Lisa (Kenny) Alexander of Dittmer, Darlis (Mark) Moore of Bloomsdale, Vernon (Lisa) Hamilton of De Soto, Troy Harmon of Bonne Terre, Steve (Beth) Hamilton of Hillsboro, Joe (fiancé Kaila Hancock) Hamilton of Pevely and Amy (Robert) Straskulic of Leadington; a brother: Drew Hamilton of Annapolis; a sister: Louise Toppins of Annapolis; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Homer “Peck” Hamilton; and two sisters: Karion Sutton and Sylvia Propst.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at Bryson Funeral Home Chapel, 312 S. Valle, in Pilot Knob, officiated by the Rev. Charles Sutton. Burial is in the Meadows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Meadows Cemetery Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Bryson Funeral Home.
