
Charlene Evelyn Brown, 82, of O’Fallon died May 20, 2022. Mrs. Brown attended Star School in Crystal City and Douglass High School in Festus before graduating from Crystal City High School. She earned a licensed practical nursing degree from Jefferson College and worked in pediatric intensive care as well as other areas of hospital care. She was a Christian and a member of the Harrison-Cook Chapter of American War Mothers in Missouri. She was loving and nurturing, resilient and strong, and enjoyed movies, attending plays, sharing recipes, playing bingo, Scrabble and other board games, crafting, crocheting and spending time with family and friends. Born Nov. 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Flavis (Henderson) Dukes.
She is survived by eight children: Donald Rodney (Sharon) Dukes, Douglas Terance (Casey) Dukes, Dean Tyrone Dukes, Darla Flavies Dukes, Doreen Faith Dukes, Roslyn Michele Brown, Rolitta Marlene (Albert II) Spicer and Roger Matthew Brown; a daughter-in-law: Regina Brown; three sisters: Lillie Mae “China” (Charles) Mitchell, Alva Jane Brock and Iris Babs Blanks; a brother: Felix Walter “Buddy” (Lucretia) Dukes; four sisters-in-law: Pearl Dukes, Brenda Brown, Beatrice (Bland) Campbell and Brenda Barran; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by two children: Robert Michael Brown Jr. and Kwaisi Ares Brown; three siblings: Theodore Lloyd (Dukes) Barran, Loretta Flavadale Dukes and Melvin Gene Dukes; and two brothers-in-law: Curtis Blanks Sr. and Michael Brock Sr.
Private family visitation will be at 11 a.m. and public visitation at noon, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Newcomer Funeral Home West County Chapel, 2211 Clarkson Road, in Chesterfield. A memorial meal will follow at 6 p.m. at All Occasion Catering and Banquet Center, 111 Compass Point Drive, in St. Charles. Arrangements are under the direction of Newcomer Funeral Home
