Catherine L. “Bunsen” Abernathy, 85, of Festus died Oct. 19, 2016, at her home. Mrs. Abernathy was a longtime member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. Born July 23, 1931, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Arta (Huey) and Eugene T. Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband: Norman “Tuggy” Abernathy.
She is survived by two brothers: Ronald Burns of Festus and Donald Burns of Reston, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers: James (the late Agnes) Burns and Edwin (the late Janice) Burns.
Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for noon Friday, Oct. 21, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus, officiated by Father Jeffrey Maassen. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Our Lady Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
