Bessie (Merseal) Hawkins-Walker, 93, of Indio, Calif., formerly of De Soto, died Nov. 23, 2017, in Indio. Mrs. White was a nurse at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and a member of Mount Olive Church. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, bingo, solitaire, crocheting and gardening. She loved her dogs, her church, and most of all, spending time with her family. Born July 6, 1924, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Deila (Williams) and James Merseal. She was preceded in death by two husbands: John Hawkins and Woodrow Walker Sr.
She is survived by a daughter: Pamela Hawkins-Langford of Indio; four grandchildren: Lisa Mahn-Donnell, Jamie (Tom Compton) Mahn, Eric (Crystal) Hawkins and Karen Hawkins; six great-grandchildren: Sean (Jessica) Mahn, Seth Donnell, Matthew (Hannah) Donnell, Madison Mahn, Brittany (Joe) Diaz and Dustin Hawkins; four great-great-grandchildren: Ava Mahn, Kaylee Donnell, Jaylin Brewer and Misael Diaz; and good friends Elaine Waters and James Crowley.
She was preceded in death by a son: Ron Hawkins; two brothers: Victor and Joseph Merseal; and three sisters: Juanita Wilson, Gertrude Rice and Mildred Shankard.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 North Main St., in De Soto. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
