Barbara Mae (Richardson) Ashlock, 79, of De Soto, formerly of Festus and Childress, Texas, died Feb. 19, 2020. Mrs. Ashlock raised her children as a single mother, working two jobs and retired as a sales associate and cashier for Walmart in Festus. She loved reading her Bible, spending time with her family and listening to gospel music, especially the Chuckwagon Gang and Elvis. Born Oct. 14, 1940, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late William Richardson and Genevieve (Derickson) Hassell.
She is survived by four daughters: Debbie (Jake) Head of Desloge, Cindy Ashlock of De Soto, Paula Prentice of Festus and Holly Shanks of French Village; one son, Tim Ashlock of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Nancy (the late Jerry) Williams of Springfield; five grandchildren: Jason (Angie) Head, Justin Head, Ashley (Seldon) Getty, Lauren (Chris Telle) Shanks and Kaitlynn Prentice; and 11 great-grandchildren: Emily, Chloe, Hailey, Ashdon, Natalie, Kyson, Jillian, Chase, Melanie, Shalyn and Kali.
She was preceded in death by an infant son: David Hill; her sister: Joan Oermann; her brother: Brian Richardson; a great-grandson: Hayden Getty; and a brother-in-law: Jerry Williams.
A funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 24, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pevely, officiated by the Rev. Richard Grayson, Sr. Burial was in Herculaneum Cemetery.
