Annie "Odell" Rainey, 78, of Festus

Annie “Odell” Rainey, 78, of Festus, formerly of Poplarville, Miss., died July 3, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Rainey was retired after working in the lunchroom at Poplarville Lower Elementary School in Mississippi. She was baptized at Antioch United Methodist Church in Benndale, Miss., and attended Oak Bridge Community Church in Arnold and First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. Born Sept. 14, 1943, in Benndale, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Parker) and William Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Lester “Dale” Rainey.

She is survived by two daughters: Debbie Rainey of Festus and Priscilla (Walker) Portell of Festus; three siblings: Dorothy Littlefield of Benndale, Burt (Diane) Carter of Holden, La., and Dan (Portia) Carter of Tylertown, Miss.; two grandchildren: Cody Portell and Chantel Collier; a great-granddaughter: Zelda Collier-Wisniewski; and many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by three siblings: Billy and Marshall Carter and Helen (the late Simon) Erkhart.

A funeral service and burial will be held at Antioch United Methodist Church and Cemetery in Mississippi. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
