Alvin G. Marschel, 84, of Goldman, died Aug. 18, 2017, at Scenic View Nursing and Rehab Center in Herculaneum. Mr. Marschel was a journeyman carpenter and was Jefferson County building code administrator from 1971 to 1988. He served in the U.S. Army as a construction foreman in the U.S. and Japan from 1953-1956. He served on the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church council for more than 60 years, and designed and furniture and many crosses for the church. He was a founding member of the Goldman Fire Protection District and a member of VFW Post 5331 and Carpenters Union Local 2214. Born July 6, 1933, in Kimmswick, he was the son of the late Helen F. (Keune) and George W. Marschel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: Arlene (Danneman) Marschel.

He is survived by a daughter: Rhonda (Michael) Johnson of Festus; two sons: Dean (Susan) Marschel of Spring, Texas, and Lynn (Lisa) Marschel of Ste. Genevieve; a daughter-in-law: Carol Marschel of Newburg, Ind.; a sister: Beatrice Baumbach of Gerald; 11 grandchildren: Stephanie (Matt) Whitehead, Scott (Aubrey) Johnson, Shawna (Billy) Rigney, Jennifer (David) Trunk, Adam (fiance Teresa) Marschel and Andrew, Lindsey, Lacy, Abby, Alex and Emma Marschel; and six great-grandchildren: Lauren and Kinley Whitehead, Will and Jackson Rigney and Olivia and Ella Trunk.

He was preceded in death by a son: Larry Marschel; two sisters: Alice (Luther) Davis and Mildred (William) Christ; a brother-in-law: Ervin Baumbach; and a granddaughter: Lauren Johnson.

A visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6550 Old Hwy. 21, in Imperial, followed immediately by the funeral service officiated by the Revs. Charles Schultz, Jarold Rux and Kyle Castens. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund, Disabled American Veterans, 400 S. 13th St., No. 119, St. Louis MO 63103, or Immanuel Lutheran Christian Childcare and Preschool, 19 N. Third St., Festus MO 63028. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
