Alta G. Luhn, 104, Pevely

Alta G. Luhn, 104, of Pevely, died Jan. 14, 2020, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Crystal City. Mrs. Luhn was Herculaneum High School’s oldest alumni at the time of her death. She was a member of the former Horine Bible Church, where she served as church pianist, playing for all the Christmas pageants, and where she also taught child evangelism fellowship. She also taught private piano lessons for 82 years. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening, and she used the proceeds from her gardens to fund Christian organizations.

Born Sept. 8, 1915, in Horine, she was the daughter of the late Amy Elizabeth (Elstrot) and Edward J. Stanglein. She was preceded in death by her husband: Wilbert W. Luhn, whom she married in 1936, in a double wedding ceremony with her late twin sister, who married Wilbert Luhn’s late brother.

She is survived by two daughters: Janet (Michael) Weseman of Pevely and Barbara (Richard) Jenkins of Greeley, Colo.; five grandchildren: Bryan Sullivan, Cheryl (Alan) Prall, Jeffrey (Cindy) Sullivan, Gregory (Shannon) Sullivan, Joshua (Kristy) Jenkins; 20 great-grandchildren: Amy (Tina) Fetty, Christopher (Lacy) Sullivan, Andrew (Sara) Sullivan, Sarah Sullivan, Jacob Sullivan, Zachary Sullivan, Joshua Sullivan, Becky Sullivan, Amanda Sullivan, Rachel Sullivan, Jonathan Prall, Beth Prall, Michaela Prall, Lauren Sullivan, Emma Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Emily Sullivan, Jackson Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins and Kaitlyn Jenkins; and seven great-great-grandchildren: Ryan Sullivan, Aislin Sullivan, Brady Stavert, Zoey Stavert, Hazel Sullivan, Sloane Sullivan and Madysun Peters.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: her twin Alma (the late Cecil) Luhn and Ruth (the late Walter) Hemme; and a granddaughter: Alison Jenkins.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 West Main St., in Festus, officiated by Jerry Holman of Barnhart. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Crystal Oaks Foundation, 1500 Calvary Church Road, Festus, 63028.
