Ada Mac (Lawson) Shimkus, 83, of Barnhart died Sept. 14, 2021. Mrs. Shimkus was retired after a 30-year career with White Rodgers. She was a volunteer at Laumeier Sculpture Park for 10 years. She was known as witty and with a great sense of humor, and enjoyed art, fashion, reading and dancing. She attended Humbolt Elementary School and McKinley High School. Born in Frankclay, she was the daughter of the late Irma Irene (Compton) and Ivan M. Lawson.
She is survived by her husband: Dan Shimkus; four children: James II, Greg “Tiger,” Leisa and Melody Marshall; eight grandchildren: Jimmy (Hilary), Jamie (Yannick), Jake, John, Nicole, Johnny, Lynnie and Jake; one great-grandchild: James IV; two siblings: Mary Lou Cartlidge and Teddy Lawson; and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Larry Lawson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until a memorial service at noon Saturday, Sept. 25 at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Memorials may be made to Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis County or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
