UPDATE: Heavy rain on Monday (March 27) has postponed the start of this project. Jefferson County Public Works Director Jason Jonas said work will begin on the first phase of the project, building a bypass, once weather conditions allow.
Some drivers in the western part of Imperial will be affected by a Jefferson County Public Works Department project that begins Monday (March 27).
County crews will begin work on what is estimated to be a three-month-long project on East Dry Fork Road west of Butler Valley Drive to replace a culvert for a tributary of Glaize Creek.
The project will replace a deteriorating steel box culvert that has been reduced to one lane of traffic. The project, estimated to cost $355,000, will include the construction of a temporary bypass so that traffic will continue to flow on the road.
The road carries an average of 897 vehicles per day. East Dry Fork Road dead-ends past Butler Valley Drive so a closure or detour would not be possible.
The new culvert will be 4 1/2 feet wider and built of concrete with guard rails on both sides.
The county will pay for the project through its share of the countywide half-cent sales tax for road and bridge improvements.
