De Soto Dash for Dystrophy

Pam Downs and Eric Downs high five each other as they near the finish line at the 2016 De Soto Dash for Dystrophy.

The ninth annual De Soto Dash for Dystrophy will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at J.C. Culwell Stadium on the campus of De Soto High School, 815 Amvets Drive.

Registration will be held from 7-7:45 a.m.

The cost is $25.

Medals will be awarded to the top runners of various age groups and trophies will be awarded to the top male and top female runner.

Jared McKeon founded the dash when he was 15 years old and a freshman in high school. At that time, Jared was an avid runner. He ran on the school’s cross country team through junior high and high school years, then half-marathons in the St. Louis area. Along with the mission of having a local 5K, he wanted the proceeds to go to Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of his cousin, Christian, who was diagnosed with the disease when he was 5 years old. Christian is now 14.

Over the years, the dash has raised more than $35,000. Last year, the dash attracted 113 runners and raised more than $8,000.
