festus blues funk fest

It looks like beautiful weather is in store for the weekend, and if you’re looking some fun, outdoor activities, you’re in luck because several are planned around the county.

■ The Mastodon State Historic Site, 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive, in Imperial will hold a program on primitive hunting from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Admission is free. The program will cover how atlatls were made and used to hunt mastodons. For more information, call 636-464-2976.

■ If music is more your thing, a blues and funk festival will be held from 6-10:30 p.m. Saturday at West City Park along Old Hwy. A in Festus. Admission is free. The festival will include performances by Torrey Casey and the Southside Hustle and Oliver Johnson and the Night Train Express. The event also will include a beer tent and food vendors, as well as face painting, a photo booth and a bubble bus. No coolers are allowed. The sponsors are the city of Festus, and the Friends of the Festus Parks.

■ Film fans might want to take in the Movies in the Park event, which will be held at dusk Saturday at Herculaneum City Park, 776 Joachim Ave. The “Incredibles 2” will be shown. Admission is free. Attendees are encourage to bring blankets or chairs and insect repellent.
