mastodon state historic site

The Mastodon State Historic Site, 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive, in Imperial will hold two events Saturday – a guided hike and related activities that begin in the morning and a presentation on area historic sites to be held in the afternoon. There is no admission fee for either event.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., people may meet at the trailhead near the Mastodon historic site’s museum for a half-mile hike on Wildflower Trail to the Kimmswick Bone Bed. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water and bug spray. Rock painting and artifact rubbing and identification will be included.

From 2-4 p.m., a meeting will be held to discuss the Mastodon, Sandy Creek Covered Bridge and Gov. Daniel Dunklin’s Grave state historic sites. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring the meeting.
