Arnold events
In Arnold, there will be an Apple Festival, a 9-11 ceremony and a dog swim.
■ The Arnold Farmers Market will hold its annual Apple Festival on Saturday morning at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road, off Jeffco Boulevard near the Meramec River. The Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon.
As part of the festival, the Farmers Market will hold an apple dessert contest. Any dessert with apples in it is eligible. Desserts must not require refrigeration, however. Dessert entries must be dropped off no later than 10 a.m. Ribbons and gift cards will be awarded to the winners.
The event also will include a free caramel apple decorating activity for children. As always, a variety of vendors will be at the Farmers Market selling produce and other home-grown or home-made products.

■ In addition, the city of Arnold will hold a 9-11 ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road. Arnold Mayor Ron Counts will be the keynote speaker, and the Rock Community Fire Protection District will participate. First responders will be treated to breakfast after the ceremony.
■ Later on Saturday, the city will hold its annual Pooch Plunge, when dogs will have the chance to swim at rec center’s outdoor pool before it’s drained and cleaned before re-opening next season. Small dogs (those 25 pounds and under) will get to swim from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and larger dogs from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $10 per dog, accompanied by one adult for free. Additional adults will be charged $3. Proceeds will benefit the city’s Paw Parks, with one of the dog parks at Arnold City Park and the other at Ferd B. Lang Park.
