This year’s Jefferson County Relay for Life will be from 5-10 p.m. Saturday (June 29) at the First Baptist Church of Arnold, 2012 Missouri State Road.
Proceeds from the relay will go to the American Cancer Society, which uses the money for cancer research and to provide services to cancer patients.
To participate, people may register online at the Relay for Life website or they may register at the event. Registration is free.
Participants are asked to raise funds for the cause prior to the relay.
Relay organizers hope to raise $65,000 at this year’s event.
The theme of this year’s relay is “Celebrate Birthdays.”
The opening ceremony will be at 5 p.m., followed by the survivor/caregiver walk, when cancer survivors and their caregivers will take a lap while other attendees cheer them on.
Food trucks will be on hand for the entire event.
The event also will include entertainment, including clowns and a fire breather, as well as princesses and superheroes from Gateway Superfriends.
In addition, a group of theater performers called the Limelights will perform from 7-10 p.m.
The luminaria ceremony will begin at dusk, when participants will light luminarias to represent life, whether the life of a survivor or a life taken by cancer.
The demonstration will be followed by the closing ceremony to celebrate unity.
