Jefferson County and Eureka residents of all ages are welcome to jump in the Wayback Machine (Remember Mr. Peabody and Sherman?) and take a cruise through the old days for the annual “Way Back When” photo contest.
Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for seniors, sponsors the contest. Winners, drawn at random from all entries, will receive cash prizes. The first person whose name is selected will win $100, the second $75 and the third $50.
Readers are welcome to submit up to two photographs of a person, place, event or activity from long ago. Photos must be at least 25 years old, so only photos taken before 1997 are eligible.
“This is one of my favorite reader-submission contests,” Leader special sections editor Laura Marlow said. “We’ve gotten some amazing photos over the past few years.”
The Sept. 30 issue of Grand Times will feature as many entries as space allows. That issue also will include information about the Arnold Senior Expo, set for Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road. The deadline to submit an entry in the contest is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17.
Some ideas for subjects might be an old-time family get-together, a community event, a new home or a historic moment.
“We’ve seen all kinds of stuff,” Marlow said. “We’ve gotten carefully posed pictures and we’ve gotten spur-of-the-moment snapshots.”
Entries should include the following information:
■ Photographer’s name, age, address and phone number.
■ The date and place the photo was taken and by whom.
■ The names of any people in the photo.
■ Any other information about the photo that explains why it is memorable.
