The 2019 Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade

The 2019 Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.

The Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade scheduled for Monday, Nov. 29, should provide all the sights and sounds of previous Crystal City-Festus parades that kick off the holiday season, said a chamber spokeswoman.

The annual event starts at 7 p.m. at Mississippi Avenue and Bailey Road in Crystal City, proceeds west along Bailey Road and onto Festus Main Street, and finishes in front of the Festus Public Library, 400 W. Main St.

“It’s the 72nd annual Christmas Parade,” said Diana Stueve, a chamber spokeswoman. “The theme is ‘Winter Nights and Magical Lights.’”

The parade was not held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re looking forward again to having it this year,” she said.

She said entrants have been eager to register.

“We’ve had around 100 entrants in the parade in years past,” Stueve said. “We’ve had in excess of 60 sign up (as of Nov. 16) this year. There’s no deadline to register. If you can get something put together and be at the parade route, you can participate that night.”

The parade draws a variety of entrants, Stueve said.

“We have floats, motor vehicles and eight marching bands,” she said. “We have a lot of local businesses participating and people from St. Louis. There are horses. Many from the emergency services are participating. We’ll have Knights of Columbus clowns throwing candy.”

Naturally, Santa Claus will be in the parade, she said.

According to the Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce website, no Santas other than the official Santa are allowed at the event to not confuse children.
