The Boone County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim recovered at Perche Creek on Sunday, but is deferring to family and friends as to whether the victim's name should be publicly released, according to a Boone County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.

The post confirms the body was that of a female. It also says the victim was a 47-year-old from Columbia.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday after callers said they located something suspicious in Perche Creek, according to Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Capt. Brian Leer.

Authorities say they found a city of Columbia trash cart that was sealed shut but smelled of decomposition.

When they opened the trash cart, they found the body of a woman inside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Andrew B. Acton, 53, is charged with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution. A surveillance photo of a red pickup truck helped authorities identify Acton as a suspect, according to court documents. The photo also showed a Columbia trash bin lying in the bed of the truck, according to court documents.

Acton was set to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday, but his arraignment was rescheduled to 1 p.m. May 26 at the Boone County Courthouse.

Boone County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact the Boone County Sheriff's Office through Boone County Joint Communications.
