• A 20-year-old woman and 19-year old man from Randolph County now face first-degree murder charges in the death of a Moberly teenager. Prosecutors filed amended charges Friday against Alayna Mason and Hunter Ames for the kidnapping and killing of 16-year-old Kayla Huff. Two other men also remain in jail on charges related to the case.
• A 20-year-old man is in custody for the shooting of Mizzou running back Ahmad Hardy. Kentucky police arrested Rashodrick Harris this morning in Paducah following a tip and surveillance video.
• The City of Columbia invites the public to meet three finalists for the Communications director position on May 20. Christopher Ave, Rob Jones, and Shayne Martin will be at the Columbia Training Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
• Boone County commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed jail sales tax for the Aug. 4 ballot. The sheriff’s office wants voters to consider a three-eighths-cent Prop L sales tax to fund construction of a new Boone County Jail with about 570 beds. The hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. in the Boone County Commission Chambers at the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center in Columbia. County officials say the current jail is often limited to about 190 detainees. As of May 5, Boone County had 201 detainees housed in 12 other Missouri counties. Out-of-county housing costs rose from $499,000 in 2022 to more than $2.5 million in 2025.
• Two westbound I-70 ramps in Columbia are closing Monday night for construction. Crews will place temporary barriers at Rangeline Street and Providence Road starting at 8 p.m. Drivers must find alternate routes until the ramps reopen Tuesday at 2 a.m. MoDOT officials say the work is part of the ongoing lane expansion project.
• Former Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel faces a bench trial Monday in Camden County. The 74-year-old was stopped near the Lake of the Ozarks last July on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Pinkel allegedly refused a chemical test during the stop.
• A 47-year-old Mountain View man is in the hospital with serious injuries following a semi-truck crash west of Columbia. State troopers say the driver went off Route UU Thursday evening and hit a utility pole. The crash knocked out power to 1,500 Boone Electric customers for several hours.
• A man from Rocheport was found guilty Thursday for a deadly 2024 crash on the Business Loop in Columbia. Jurors convicted Matthew Shilling of involuntary manslaughter for the wreck that killed 32-year-old Christina Mayfield. Investigators say Shilling rear-ended a motorcycle, which threw Mayfield from the bike and into another vehicle.
• A federal grand jury indicted a 71-year-old Columbia man Thursday for a February bank robbery. Prosecutors say Basil Kyles used a gun to steal $6,000 from First Mid Bank on N. Fifth St. Police later found a firearm and most of the cash at his downtown apartment.
• CoolFest is Saturday in Columbia’s Arcade District. They call it a hub of nerdy, geek culture. There’s live music and a maker’s market.
