An Eldon man was charged with murder Tuesday in connection to the shooting death of a woman in Versailles on Monday.
Robert Anselmo, 56, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to online court records.
The Versailles Police Department said a woman was shot in the head in the 100 block of South Burke Street Monday morning. A probable cause statement identified the woman as Johnetta Yeager and said she was found unresponsive outside her vehicle.
Police said at the time that she was in critical condition; the probable cause statement said Yeager was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at University Hospital.
After the shooting, Versailles police asked for the public's help in identifying the suspect, and Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney Dustin Dunklee said the suspect was arrested around 6 p.m. Monday in Miller County.
A witness said Yeager was sitting in her vehicle with the door open when someone wearing a pink and orange hooded sweatshirt passed in front of the vehicle; the witness then heard a gunshot, according to the probable cause statement. Surveillance video near the area reportedly showed the suspect firing a gun into the vehicle, according to the statement.
Police said Monday that they believe the incident was of personal nature. The probable cause statement identifies Anselmo as Yeager's former partner. The statement said Yeager had recently sought a protection order against Anselmo and that the two were involved in an ongoing civil case.
The Police Department said it asked the Lake of the Ozarks Major Case Squad to assist in the investigation on Monday. The team seized Anselmo's truck, which matched the description of a suspect vehicle seen near the scene of the shooting. Investigators found fibers in the truck matching the color of the pink and orange sweatshirt the suspect was seen wearing, according to the probable cause statement.
A no-bond warrant was issued for Anselmo. He is being held at the Morgan County Jail, according to jail records.
