The Mayor of Columbia, Barbara Buffaloe, posted a response to the shooting early Saturday morning on Facebook.

Buffaloe added that the city of Columbia and the Columbia Police Department added eight additional officers to the night shift in June.

According to the Facebook post, these officers have made over 300 enforcement actions. Buffaloe said because of their work, downtown Columbia has not had a shooting since June.

"But one incident is one too many," Buffaloe said. "Another act of senseless gun violence, and I'm kind of mad."

Buffaloe said she asked if there was anything different that could've changed what happened, and the response was no.

"They were able to immediately...umm...apprehend the suspect and put him into custody, and so because of that, because they were already on scene, they were able to solve that fast." said Buffaloe.

Three people were injured in the Saturday morning shooting, and police arrested Misael Covarrubias in connection with the shooting.
