The investigation into the death of Erik Spencer is ongoing, the Cole County Prosecuting Attorney's office said in an emailed statement to KOMU 8 News Friday afternoon.
"The Cole County Prosecutor's Office is working closely with investigators from the Jefferson City Police Department, who are working diligently to complete a thorough investigation into the shooting," Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson's Office wrote in the statement. "Because the investigation remains ongoing, the Cole County Prosecutor's Office cannot offer further comment at this time."
Spencer was shot and killed in the 3500 block of Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City on Saturday night, police said.
Spencer died at the scene of the shooting; a Jefferson City Police Department news release called the incident a homicide investigation and said detectives for the department's Criminal Investigation Section processed the scene.
Lt. Jason Payne said the Police Department had identified a suspect and that the suspect's name would not be released unless the Cole County Prosecutor's Office files criminal charges.
Payne said the suspect was cooperating with the investigation.
Spencer's family held a news conference Wednesday, where his father and sister called for accountability.
