The Maries County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed DWI charges Tuesday against a Rolla man in connection to a Monday evening crash that killed a 65-year-old woman from Vichy and left a 69-year-old man from Vichy with moderate to serious injuries.
The crash happened around 6:13 p.m. in Vichy near the Fire Department when a Dodge Ram 3500, driven by Curtis Meyer, crossed the center line and struck a Ford F-150 head on, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The 65-year-old woman was a passenger in the Ford F-150 and was pronounced dead on scene, according to the crash report. The driver of the Ford F-150, the 69-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to the report.
A probable cause statement filed Tuesday confirmed Meyer's connection to the crash. An arrest report from the Highway Patrol indicated Meyer was arrested on suspicion of DWI causing the death of another, but the Highway Patrol crash reports did not name Meyer, who is 35.
The probable cause statement alleged that after the crash, Meyer smelled strongly of intoxicants and said he drank half a bottle of alcohol before the crash. Investigators said Meyer's eyes were bloodshot and glassy, that his speech was slurred, and that he stumbled and fell when he was asked to stand up, according to the statement.
Meyer allegedly refused to take a Breathalyzer test, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol obtained a search warrant to test his blood, according to the probable cause statement.
Meyer was taken to a local hospital to be deemed fit for confinement, and he was then taken to the Maries County Jail, where he is currently being held, according to jail records. Meyer was arrested on a no-bond warrant, according to court documents.
Meyer is charged with DWI causing the death of another, DWI causing serious physical injury, failing to drive on the right half of the roadway, failing to maintain insurance and failing to display plates.
