Rockford Beach in House Springs

Rockford Beach in House Springs.

Work on the Rockford Beach dam in House Springs is completed and the park will reopen Friday (July 1), just in time for the Fourth of July weekend.

The park, just off Hwy. W, has been closed for more than a month while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reinforced the dam under the direction of the Environmental Protection Agency because of environmental concerns.

The dam, which likely was once part of a milling operation, has been deteriorating for years, Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Director Tim Pigg said.

He said the Corps has now finished the work on the dam, and the park will reopen.

“The dam is as good as it’s going to get,” Pigg said.

Rockford Beach has river access for fishing and boating. The park features picnic tables, grills and a boat ramp. The park is open from dawn until dusk.

Admittance to the park for Jefferson County residents is $5 per person or $15 per carload. For non-Jefferson County residents the cost is $10 per person or $20 per carload. A $20 lifetime pass is available for Jefferson County residents who are 55 or older. Cashier hours are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
