Veterans and their friends and family are encouraged to share photos and stories with the Leader for a special section to honor those who have served and sacrificed.
The photos and memories may be about any Jefferson County, Eureka or Wildwood veteran, living or deceased, from any military branch or era, wartime or peacetime.
The Leader will publish a Salute to Veterans tribute in the Nov. 9 issue of the paper.
Veterans who were featured in former years may be included, but please tell different stories and provide different photos than those submitted before.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. The paper will publish as many photos and stories as space allows, with priority given to first-time submitters. The remaining photos and stories may appear on the paper’s website.
In order to be eligible for publication, each submission must include the following information:
■ The name, address and daytime phone number of the person submitting the entry.
■ The names of any people in the photograph and the approximate date when it was taken.
■ Include the service person’s hometown and year of birth,
■ Include the military branch and years served, plus any details about foreign or domestic posts, specialties or training.
■ Add details – funny stories, sad stories, romantic stories, heroic stories.
All submissions will be edited for length and clarity.
Photos may be submitted in either print or digital form. “Then” and “now” photos are especially welcome.
Mail photos to Leader Veterans Tribute, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; bring to the Leader office at 503 N. Second St. in Festus; or email to news@leaderpublications.biz. Physical photos that include a self-addressed, stamped envelope will be mailed back; others will be held for pickup.
