Eureka Police arrested two woman who were riding in a car that an officer stopped because it was linked to an alleged theft of boots from the Dickey Bub Farm and Home store, 100 Hilltop Village Center Drive. The man driving the car was arrested for the alleged theft, police reported.
A 44-year-old Labadie woman and a 22-year-old St. Clair woman were arrested on Nov. 6 after an officer allegedly found a container that had two bags of suspected methamphetamine inside it under the passenger’s seat. Because either of the two women may have placed the box under the seat and neither would say it belonged to them, they were both arrested, the report said.
The older woman also was arrested on felony warrants for shoplifting out of Franklin County, according to the report.
An officer stopped the 2002 Mini Cooper the women were riding in because the car was connected to a reported shoplifting that happened on Nov. 3 at Dickey Bub. A 40-year-old Robertsville man was driving the car, and he was arrested for alleged shoplifting, the report said.
Eureka Police reported at about 11:25 a.m. Nov. 3 the man was seen in surveillance video trying on boots at Dickey Bub. He allegedly put the boots he was wearing when he entered the store into the box and wore the new boots, which are valued at $146.12, out of the store, according to the report.
The man was seen leaving the store’s parking lot in a silver Mini Cooper, the report said.
An officer saw the Mini Cooper at about 1:15 p.m. Nov. 6 traveling west on I-44 and he stopped the car near Lewis Road, according to the report.
The man driving the car was wearing the same clothes as the man allegedly seen in the surveillance video putting on the boots. He also allegedly admitted to stealing the boots and was wearing them, the report said.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released, according to the report.
The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged stealing, Capt. Michael Werges said.
He said the older woman was held for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the younger woman was released pending the application for a warrant, Werges said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the women through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Werges said.
