As part of the I-55 Meramec River bridge project north of Arnold, MoDOT will switch traffic to continue work on the southbound bridge construction. During this stage of construction, once the switch is complete, southbound I 55 will be reduced from five lanes to four. The four lanes will be split with two lanes on either side of the work zone.
Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, one lane will close as crews restripe the pavement and move the barrier wall to set up the new traffic switch. The striping and barrier work will only take place nightly.
Drivers should be aware the Arnold exit to Hwy. 141 (Exit 191) will only be accessible from the right two lanes.
This traffic setup is expected to last from mid-November to early December. After this work is complete, lanes will be returned to their normal configuration and construction on the northbound bridge will begin in the spring of 2027.

The bridge project began in March. The entire project is expected to be complete by spring 2028.
Kozeny Wagner Construction will be paid $16.5 million to perform routine maintenance and repair work, as well as resurfacing and repairing deteriorated sections of the decks on the twin bridges over the Meramec River that connect Jefferson and St. Louis counties.
