A Windsor Middle School student allegedly behind a threat emailed Jan. 17 to the school’s administration has been turned over to juvenile authorities, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Windsor C-1 School District Superintendent Jason King said classes went on as usual that day at Windsor Middle School, 6208 Hwy. 61-67, Imperial, as authorities investigated the threat, which they determined was not credible.

“It was normal classes,” King said today, Jan. 24.

In a letter King sent to parents Jan. 17, he said that upon learning of the incident, “we immediately contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s (Office), who provided increased law enforcement presence on our campus in addition to starting an investigation into the origin of threat.”

Grant Bissell, the Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said the Windsor Middle School student alleged to have made the threat enlisted an accomplice in another state.

“Our SRO (school resource officer) was made aware of the threat and worked with our computer forensics detective to backtrack the digital messages,” Bissell said. “It was learned the juvenile student was working with another juvenile, believed to be in Texas, to craft and send the message. It’s unknown at this time whether the out-of-state juvenile will face any charges.”

King said in his letter to parents that if authorities determined the emailed threat had merit, steps to evacuate would have occurred.

“As a rule of thumb, please keep in mind that any time we believe there is an imminent danger or threat to students, the district will be closed or dismissed out of an abundance of caution,” he wrote.

King said district policy prohibits him from disclosing any information as to the type of punishment the accused student faces from the district.
