Eureka Police arrested a 43-year-old Washington man for alleged drug possession after finding pills suspected of containing fentanyl in the car the man was driving. An officer stopped the car because the man was wanted on warrants for driving with a revoked license, police reported.
At about 10:40 p.m. July 8, an officer saw a 1998 Chrysler Sebring that he recognized for recently being stopped by another Eureka Police officer due to the driver having a revoked license. When the officer checked the car’s license plate, he discovered the driver was wanted on the warrants, the report said.
The officer followed the Sebring to Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, where he arrested the man on the warrants. When the officer searched the car, he allegedly found a bottle containing pills that appeared to be fentanyl, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked. The man allegedly told an officer the pills were fentanyl, but he not longer uses the drug, the report said.
He also allegedly said he was bringing the pills to a different man who had fixed a go-cart for him, according to the report.
The man was released pending the application for warrants, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and driving with a revoked license, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
