Jonathon Ryan Varvil, 27, of Crystal City recently was sentenced to 140 years in prison for sexually molesting two young children in Pevely and Crystal City, court records show.

On Sept. 6, a jury found Varvil guilty of five counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and one count of first-degree child molestation, all felonies. On Oct. 25, Jefferson County Div. 6 Circuit Court Judge Troy Cardona sentenced him to 25 years for each of the statutory sodomy charges and 15 years for the child molestation charge. All the prison terms are to be served consecutively, for a total of 140 years. In addition, Varvil must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, according to court documents.

Varvil had sexual contact with a boy several times between Aug. 31, 2012, and Oct. 31, 2012, and the boy was 10 years old when the incidents began. The abuse occurred in Pevely, the probable-cause statement said.

On Jan. 23, 2014, Crystal City Police got a report that Varvil had sexual contact about two years earlier with a girl who was 12 years old at the time. That incident occurred in Crystal City, the report said.

Cardona said it would be inappropriate for him to comment about the case.

“The sentence should speak for itself,” he said.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Marie Pudlowski handled the case.

Varvil is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
