Arnold Police arrested a 40-year-old Union man and a 48-year-old Fenton woman after the man allegedly abandoned a stolen car outside a veterinarian business. The two were arrested at about 9 p.m. March 26 at the nearby Phillips 66 gas station, 5 Municipal Drive, police reported.
At about 9:30 a.m. that morning, police found a 2020 Nissan Altima in the parking lot outside the Arnold Animal Hospital, 11 Municipal Drive. When officers checked the license plates on the car, they learned the plates were registered to a different vehicle. Police also discovered the car had been reported stolen March 25 in St. Louis. The car was tracked using its GPS device, the report said.
Video surveillance allegedly showed the man, who has face tattoos and was wearing a black jacket and black pants, get out of the Altima. The footage also showed a silver Kia, driven by the woman, follow the Altima onto the parking lot, Arnold Police reported.
When the man got out of the Altima, he reportedly talked with the driver in the Kia before walking over to the Phillips 66 gas station. The Kia followed him, and after the two entered the station’s convenience store, they left together in the Kia, the report said.
The Kia returned to the gas station the night of March 26, and a store employee contacted police. When officers asked the man about the Altima, he told them he borrowed it, according to the report.
The officers arrested the man because he was suspected of stealing the car, and when they searched him, the officers allegedly found a Crown Royal bag in his pocket that contained bags filled with a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, a white powder believed to be heroin and a green-leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The bag also contained blue pill capsules, clear pill capsules, a blue tablet and a dollar bill with drug residue on it, the report said.
The woman was arrested for allegedly driving with a revoked license, Arnold Police reported.
The two were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree tampering, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Arnold Police will seek a charge of driving with a revoked license against the woman, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
