jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

Eureka Police are investigating the theft of tools from a building under renovation at 179 Eureka Towne Center Drive. A back door to the building was found propped open, police reported.

A contractor working on the building for Temperature Control Solutions called police at about 8:10 a.m. March 2 and reported the burglary. He told police the building’s doors had been locked at about 4 p.m. March 1, the report said.

There were no signs of forced entry, and the contractor said up to 10 people had keys to the building because multiple companies were working on the renovation, according to the report.

The contractor said he wasn’t sure what tools had been stolen, and as of March 10, he had not provided a list or estimated value for the missing tools, Eureka Police said.

Lt. Michael Werges said no tools had been recovered and no suspects had been identified as of March 10. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
