The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two thefts of copper wire and other items from cell towers in Barnhart. Both thefts occurred in the early morning hours of June 13, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The first incident occurred about 2 a.m. in the 3000 block of Wedde Road where someone cut a section of fencing surrounding a cell tower owned by Crown Castle Corp. The thief damaged the electrical meter box to gain access to one end of the copper wire and then cut the other end of the wire at a utility pole, stealing approximately 70 feet of wire. The utility pole also was damaged. The stolen wire and damage was estimated at $5,000, the report said.

A similar incident occurred about 4:15 a.m. at a Crown Castle Corp. tower in the 6000 block of St. Luke’s Church Road. Again, a section of fencing surrounding the tower was cut and copper wire was stolen from the site. The stolen property and damage was estimated at $2,500, according to the report.

Sgt. Matthew Moore said June 21 that none of the stolen items had been recovered and no arrests had been made. Anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
