crime investigation

A home in the 6000 block of Hwy. MM in House Springs that had been left vacant because of a fire was looted over several days and $3,275 in items were stolen. The thefts occurred between 10 a.m. Nov. 9 and 10 a.m. Nov. 12, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

No one lived in the house since a fire in September. The victim visited it Nov. 9 and found nothing missing. When he returned at 4 p.m. Nov. 11, he noticed the door to a shed open and found a large air compressor and two chainsaws missing, but did not report the thefts. He secured the shed door and left, the report said.

Upon returning Nov. 12, he found the shed door had been forced open and several more items missing, including a tool box that contained metric tools, as well as a floor jack, a rifle and a plastic tool box that contained miscellaneous tools. The victim also said someone broke into a 1974 Chevrolet van and stole three nail guns and two power saws. In addition, the back passenger-side window of a Honda Accord parked on the property was broken and the car radio, two speakers and an amplifier were stolen, according to the report.

As of Nov. 28, none of the stolen items had been recovered and there had been no arrests, Sgt. Matthew Moore said. He asks anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
