Eureka Police patch

A former Culver’s restaurant employee was arrested after he allegedly stole a woman’s purse from the restaurant, 400 Meramec Blvd. He allegedly used the woman’s debit card to purchase a video game system and games and tried to use her credit cards to make other purchases, Eureka Police reported.

The victim reported she left her purse at the restaurant at about 8:10 p.m. Feb. 2 and when she returned the purse was gone. She said she was notified that her debit cards was used three times at the nearby Walmart store, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, the report said.

A Nintendo Switch video game system and games were purchased at the store for a combined $797.96 that evening, according to the report.

The victim said someone tried to use credit cards she had canceled that night at the Walgreens pharmacy, 250 E. Fourth St., and the Schnucks grocery store, 245 E. Fifth St. Those purchases were denied, the report said.

An officer obtained surveillance video from when the victim’s debit card was used at Walmart. The video allegedly showed a man with long black hair and appearing to use a Culver’s employee uniform, according to the report.

A manager at the restaurant identified the employee, and an officer arrested the teenager at his home. The officer allegedly recovered the items purchased at Walmart at the home, the report said.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, Eureka Police did not report the suspect’s exact age or identify what town he lives in. Capt. Michael Werges said the case has been turned over to juvenile authorities.
