Festus Police are investigating the theft of an SUV from outside a home in the 400 block of South Mill St. The victim said her SUV was parked in front of her mother’s house when it was stolen, Chief Tim Lewis said.

The car was recovered a few hours later outside the Taco Bell on Lee Avenue in Festus, but police are still seeking a suspect in the case, Lewis said May 11.

He said the theft was reported at about 4:50 p.m. May 7.

“The victim, a 25-year-old woman, had her 2009 GMC Acadia parked in front of her mother’s house,” he said. “The keys were left in it.

“A witness said he saw a male African-American in his 20s or 30s walk up, get in and drive off.”

Lewis said officers recovered the Acadia about 11:50 p.m. that day at the Taco Bell.

“There were no damages and it was returned to the owner,” he said. “It’s just kind of odd.”

Lewis asks anyone with information about the theft to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
