Crystal City Police will seek felony assault charges against a 27-year-old St. Louis man who allegedly beat up a 31-year-old Herculaneum man early Saturday morning (Jan. 6). The fight began just before closing time at the Office Bar and Grill, 119 Mississippi Ave., Capt. Mike Pruneau said.

At about 1:30 a.m., Crystal City Police were called to the bar, where “an altercation between several parties” broke out and then spilled out into the street where two men, including the man from Herculaneum, started fighting, Pruneau said.

“As they were fighting, several subjects jumped (the Herculaneum man) and began striking him and knocked him unconscious,” Pruneau said.

Several of the men “then began kicking (the victim) in the head and punching him while he lay unconscious in the street,” Pruneau said.

The assailants left the injured man in the street, Pruneau added.

Police arrived at the scene at 1:33 a.m., along with medical personnel from the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District.

“Due to his injuries, (the victim) was taken directly to St. Anthony’s Medical Center (in south St. Louis County),” Pruneau said.

The victim was still hospitalized Tuesday morning (Jan. 9), Pruneau added.

The St. Louis man was arrested and police will be interviewing at least two others about the assault, Pruneau said.

“We have good video of the altercation,” he said.

Crystal City Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Pruneau said.
