Eureka Police arrested a 48-year-old St. Louis woman for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The officer stopped an SUV the woman was driving after allegedly seeing her driving erratically on Fox Creek Road, Six Flags Road and Hwy. 66, police reported.
An officer was called at about 10 p.m. June 28 to the MotoMart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road, by someone who saw the woman driving a 2002 GMC Envoy erratically before stopping at the gas station. The officer saw the woman drive away from the gas station, and she allegedly failed to remain in a single lane on Fox Creek Road and nearly caused an accident, the report said.
The officer followed the SUV onto southbound Six Flags Road and turned on his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights to stop the woman. However, she continued driving on the road and turned onto Hwy. 66, according to the report.
The officer turned off his emergency lights and continued following the woman on Hwy. 66. The woman momentarily pulled off the highway before resuming driving on the road and stopped on the highway at one point, and the officer turned on his vehicle’s emergency lights and siren, the report said.
However, the woman continued to drive slowly on the highway before pulling into the parking lot of the Genisis Church, 18401 Hwy. 66, in Eureka. The woman allegedly told the officer she didn’t stop earlier because she was trying to find a safe place to pull over, according to the report.
The woman also allegedly said she drank four shots of Fireball whiskey and apologized for driving when she shouldn’t be. She said her friend had died, and she was upset, the report said.
The woman allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests, and the officer arrested her. She was taken to the Police Station, where she was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.
The woman was given summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and improper lane use, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
