A 23-year-old St. Louis man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he was stopped for allegedly speeding on Hwy. 109 in Eureka. Investigators discovered the man has at least two prior DWI convictions, Eureka Police reported.
At about 1:50 a.m. Feb. 12, an officer stopped a 2005 GMC Sierra on the highway near Bald Hill Road after a radar gun indicated the pickup was going 66 mph in a 45 mph zone. The officer reported smelling alcohol on the man’s breath, the report said.
The driver allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he allegedly registered a .130 percent blood-alcohol content, according to the report. In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.
The man was released to a sober driver. Because of his previous DWI convictions, Eureka Police will seek charges against him for DWI, speeding and driving without insurance through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Lt. Michael Werges said.
